Sylvia, a New York artist, began to paint because she thought that she should try to use a box of paints that she received as a birthday gift.
Sylvia especially likes to paint flowers, landscapes and clouds. In doing so, she paints pictures with an almost tangible serenity. Many of her paintings are done on Mohegan Island, Maine, where Sylvia has spent the summer, painting, for many years. The Mohegan paintings not only explore the wonderful architecture and landscape of that beautiful island, but they frequently depict life on the island against a backdrop of magnificent skies and clouds.
Sylvia's paintings are in the permanent collection of many museums, including the American Folk Art Museum, New York, and the American Museum, Bath, England, among others.
